Today I will admit that if I had not bought the unlimited day pass I would have stayed home. I was completely wiped out and I am not sure why. I ran my 1,000th mile this year earlier today and I felt like I ran all of those miles at one time. Oh well. I made it to class. Not only did I make it to class, I did a double decker. That’s right I did two classes back to back. And yes, I did them at Charleston Community Yoga and Stacy was the instructor.
I started with a warm flow class. Warm flow combines heat, music, breath and movement for energizing experience. The heat warms and lengthens your muscles, prevents injuries and allow for a deeper release in your body. Perspiring help flush toxins from your body and cleanse your entire systems. I thought this class was going to be difficult today, but somehow I managed to flow as if I was completely rested. I really made an effort to ‘be present’ and to leave my thoughts on the mat.
Since I had told everyone who would listen that I was doing two classes tonight so I had to stay and do the yin class. Yin is practiced in a warm space and a counterbalance to the more dynamic and active (yang) styles of yoga. With Yin Yoga each posture is held for long periods of time to encourage the slow and safe opening of connective tissues (primarily the hips, pelvis, and lower spine) leaving you with an overall feeling of lightness, spaciousness and peace. This was the harder class for me. I wanted to scream as I was holding the pigeon pose for a million minutes. But it was all good. I was exactly where I needed to be.
I remained purposedly aware and remembered to keep breathing. I was able to tune out the distractions both around me and inside of me. I am back on the path to pretzelness.
Class #5 will be Sunday at 10am after an 8-10 mile run. Will I see you there?
