My review of the Nathan VaporShot #4510NB-P

Today I am reviewing the Nathan VaporShot. What is that? It is an ergonomic hydration bottle that holds 10 ounces of liquid. This intrigued me because of the way it looks. It looks like a handle. Let menaked bottle first say that I generally do not like to have things in my hand while running and usually default to my North Face or Camelbak hydration backpacks. And I do not normally carry fluids on short runs.

However, I remembered that there was a time or two or three in the heat that I wished I had water with me even on a short run. The VaporShot could be the solution.

I had to test it out twice because the first time I was holding it the wrong way. I ran four miles wanting to toss it because it felt so uncomfortable. My hand cramped and I had difficulty squeezing it to get even a drop to drink. I was so ready to throw it in the back of my Jeep never to be seen again. Fortunately my running partner, Yvonne told me that I was holding it backwards.

So, the Nathan VaporShot test had to be performed again. This time I took it on a seven-mithe right wayle run. I held it the correct way and that made all of the difference after I put it in my left hand. I am left handed, but for some reason I had it in my right hand. In my left hand I could run smoothly and no hand cramps. I like the fact that the strap is reflective since most of my miles are done pre-dawn. The strap did not rub and it is made of wicking fabric.

I did have a bit of difficulty squeezing it to drink. Maybe that is because I was tired after my run, naked againthe fact that I have very little hand strength, or the plastic is not as pliable as I need. I had no problem drinking from it while I was stationary.

I like the idea of this water bottle. It is cute, fits in my hand when I hold it the right way. I am just not happy to carry it or anything in my hand while I run. Also, it only holds 10 ounces, which is not much. It is not much, but it is better than nothing. And Nathan does make a VaporStorm and VaporDraw which holds more. I give this three high fives.

  1. Does the photo of you holding the Vapor shot depict the right or wrong way?

The rei.com video review shows it being held the other way as correct.
